Just came back from Jogja yesterday for Nike Warehouse Sale (again). It was a sudden decision tho. At first, I didn't have to go as I have another project which the dateline is...TOMORROW! /die.

So yea, after an exhausting 4 days at Jogja (altho it was MUCH MUCH better than our first and second NWS. Lol), here I am back at opis, sitting down with the designer to finish the ongoing project. Die la still so much to do. Lol...

Will update quite slow.

Kthxbye!

Bz bz bz bz bz bz...

I thought when the end of year is approaching, I'd (I mean...all of us at the office) be more relax, but I was tooootally wrong! I haven't felt my weekends for the last couple of months *they just passed me by without me realizing it - ok, that's a bit overrated, but it's kinda true :( *, and with projectS coming ahead, most probably I won't have my Christmas holiday. How sad can that be?

On the other note, my office is gonna have a new home! New DT-ers are coming in and there's no more space for all of us, so we need to move out to a new home :)

At first, the moving out plan was for next year. But suddenly, it all changed, and we're gonna move out in 2 weeks!! Yeap, 2 weeks from now! So fast!

Oh well, at least I'll be able to feel the new office before I resign :p

Long Live Double Tape!

Happy Birthday, Double Tape! My beloved orangey office is turning 3 today!

And no, no fancy celebration and all that jazz. Just a simple birthday dinner of a very yummy "Birthday Mee" :)

20-10

*Wahh next year's birthday must be really special...20-10-2010 maaa :D*

Mia (our beloved Big Boss) said that this is actually the first time they celebrate DT's birthday, because one, none of them (I mean the early members of DT) remember when was DT really established on. Two, October 20 (2006) was actually the date Mia signed the paper that formed the company (PT Cakrawala Media Baru). It took them quite some time to came up with "Double Tape" (they even came up with Koran Kita-Kita and OUCH! Magazine beforehand), and eventually, when they came up with it, none of them remembered the date. Lol

Anyway, it's not that important lah. The most important thing is DT has grown from a very small company consisted of 3 people (or was it 7?) to 16 people at the moment. Moreover, the company has developed soooo much within these 3 years, and I can safely say all of us can be proud with it.

Yes, you may never heard of us (we are not one of the Top Agencies just yet, but wait and see! ), but as small as we may be, we are actually BIG! :)

Yes, you may not find our company's signboard outside the building we are residing now, but once you walked up to the third floor, you'll enter a homey place with lots of cheeriness, smiles, laughter, fun, and everything you've ever dreamed of in a company :D

Happy Birthday, Double Tape! Keep on improving, always keep the joyfulness you've always had, and hopefully you will be residing in a new building (DT's self-owned, of course ;)) on your fifth birthday :)

Monday welcomes me with lots of homework~

I guess my tiredness lately (due to work) have been accumulating and successfully made me woke up at 1:30 pm yesterday! Lol... It's been long since the last time I slept for 12+ hours straight! (It only happened 2 or 3 times when I was in Uni).

On the other note, Christine Jie-jie's dad (Uncle Giok) passed away last Saturday at 3:30am :((
But...he had been suffering from the stroke which made him totally paralyzed for like 10 years. So I guess it's better cos he won't suffer anymore... :(

Alcohol may protect the brain? Are you serious??

Hola, drinkers! Calling all the alcoholics out there! :P
Here's some good news about your favorite beverage. Yeap, the addictive A (for those who like it, of course)

All of these times, we have all heard of the addictive A as a major cause of accidents (who have never heard of drunk driving that led to accidents?). Heck, even lots (wait, I mean LOTS) of famous celebrities often got fined cos of drunk driving. Oh well, the life of the rich and famous and glamour *shakes head* (eh, I don't refer to anyone here ok? Just talking about some real fact out there ;))

I'm not gonna talk more on the addictive A, so just read this by yourself. A good news if you are about to go drinking tonight and assuming you're gonna drive home with a spinning head, tomato-red face, and zig-zag steps from the bar/club exit to your car *wink* :P

Alcohol may protect the brain during an accident

Sept 25, 2009
By Sean Kelley

Alcohol, a drug that is a major cause of accidents, may actually protect the brain from a life-threatening injury when an accident does occur, according to a study published this week in Archives of Surgery.

In the study of 38,000 patients with moderate to severe traumatic brain injuries who were admitted to U.S. hospitals between 2000 and 2005, 38 percent had alcohol in their blood. Such patients had a lower risk of dying of their injuries than those who hadn't been drinking.

"This study really brings up more questions than it answers," says coauthor Ali Salim, M.D., the program director of the General Surgery Residency Educational Program at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, in Los Angeles. "It's a bad thing to say alcohol is good, especially since it's responsible for so many of these injuries. But our study suggests there may be some survival advantage for people with elevated [blood alcohol] levels." Health.com: 15 ways to boost your memory in your 30s, 40s, and 50s

Each year, about 2 million people in the U.S. experience traumatic brain injuries, and 56,000 die and 80,000 are permanently impaired as a result. Alcohol plays a role in 40 percent of car fatal crashes, and half of the patients hospitalized for trauma are intoxicated at the time of injury.

The study may help experts develop therapies for traumatic brain injuries, but it has important limitations as well, Salim says.

Patients in the study who had been drinking were younger, had less severe injuries, and spent less time on a ventilator or in an intensive care unit than other patients. (Alcohol, however, still seemed to protect the brain after taking these factors into account.) Overall, 9.7 percent of people who hadn't been drinking died after a brain injury, compared with 7.7 percent of those with alcohol in their blood. It's not clear why alcohol might be helpful, although it could dampen the impact of catecholamines, hormones like adrenaline and dopamine that are released by the body after a traumatic injury, according to Salim. "We think [the blood alcohol] may attenuate that response," he says.

Alcohol may also help lower the body's core temperature, says David Hovda, Ph.D., a professor of neurosurgery at the University of California, Los Angeles, and the director of UCLA's Brain Injury Research Center. Lower body temperatures are known to slow cell death and swelling caused by severe brain injuries. Health.com: People with mental illness may self-medicate with drugs, alcohol

But alcohol's beneficial effect may be severely limited, says Hovda, who was not involved with the study. He notes that the results of animal studies have been mixed. Some animal research suggests that low levels of alcohol protect the brain, but the effect is lost at higher levels; others have found that alcohol lowers survival.

In the new study, researchers did not look at the amount of alcohol in the patients' blood, but they did find that alcohol was associated with a greater risk of complications, even as it seemed to lower mortality rates.

It's not clear if alcohol could be helpful if given after an accident. "Giving patients [alcohol] after a traumatic brain injury is much different than having it on board during the traumatic brain injury," Hovda says. The protective effect may only work when the injury occurs or may work later. "One would have to know the therapeutic time window and the dose." Health.com: How young is your brain?

Using alcohol as a therapy is unlikely, but understanding how it protects some people could help scientists develop new treatments for traumatic brain injuries, Salim says.

Soooo...B-52, Flaming Lamborghini, or Strawberry Margarita tonight? ;)
